Short-term Residencies

<< Back to Residencies

Florestan Recital Project offers two unique artistic residencies to the music departments of colleges and universities. These residencies continue Florestan’s mission to promote song activities among students by engaging them in performance opportunities and repertoire study, often as an exciting supplement to school curricula.
Although the parameters of each residency are determined by the venue and the needs of the school, Florestan will foster collaborations in either of two areas:

• Song repertoire and performance: In this residency, Florestan artists will work with student singers and pianists, in either individual or group settings, to maximize their understanding of existing repertoire and improve their performance techniques. A typical residency involves at least one singer and one pianist from the Florestan Recital Project who will work with student pianists and singers in the final preparation of a student song recital. Prior to the residency, Florestan will consult with faculty and students at the hosting institution in choosing repertoire and collaborations for the students’ recital event.

• Creating world premieres: This residency cultivates collaborations between student composers, singers, and pianists, who will work together on original song compositions. Florestan artists will work with these students on various issues common to contemporary music and song repertoire, including extended vocal techniques, effective text setting and interpretation, and stimulating cooperation between musicians.

A sample schedule of a week-long residency follows:

Day One: Arrival at college/university. Open rehearsal of Florestan program for students and faculty.

Day Two: Recital by Florestan Recital Project.

Day Three-Five: Masterclasses, individual coachings, and seminars with students. Topics relating to song repertoire, text interpretation, and collaboration.

Day Six: Student song recital as a culminating event of the residency.

A sample schedule of a 2-day residency follows:

Day One: Recital by Florestan Recital Project

Day Two: Masterclasses, individual coachings, and seminars with students. Topics relate to song repertoire, text interpretation, and collaboration.

Base cost for residency*:
$1000 performance fee per artist. Additional fees to be negotiated according to classes and length of residency. Housing and travel must be provided by the school.

*The parameters of this residency, such as its length, number of classes, and use of specific artists can easily be tailored to the needs and preferences of each individual school.
