The music of Lior Navok (b. Israel, 1971) has been performed in United States, Europe, Mexico and Israel by ensembles as the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Omaha Symphony Orchestra, Rascher Saxophone Quartet, Mexico City String Quartet, Collage New Music, Alea III, Lumina Ensemble, Ticom Ensemble, U.S. Marine Band Chamber Ensembles, Kaprizma Ensemble, Sonneries Quintet and other noteworthy ensembles and soloists.
Mr. Navok received numerous awards, including the Lily Boulanger Award, Jerome Foundation, ASCAP's Rudolf Nissim Prize-Special distinction, the Omaha Symphony Composition Award, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Alea III Composition Competition Award, Illinois State University Composition Competition prize and Austin Peay University Composition Award. Other awards include the "Golden Feather Award" (Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers in Israel), London's Galliard Ensemble prize, "America-Israel Cultural Foundation" award and an honorable mention from the "Amici Della Musica del Lagonegrese" in Italy. Navok received fellowships from the American Friends of the Israeli Philharmonic, Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, and the McDowell Colony. Most recently, Navok received the CAP award from the American Music Center and the prestigious "Prime Minister Award" (Israel).
Dr. Navok's busy composing schedule includes compositions for orchestras, ensembles and performers. Recent commissions include the Fromm Music Foundation, American Composers Forum, Collage New Music and a consortium of twenty U.S. wind ensembles (including MIT, New England Conservatory, Harvard, and Yale.) Many of Navok's compositions are being commissioned by individual performers, who look for exclusive and personalized music that can best represent their qualities.
Navok has released two highly acclaimed CDs Hidden Reflections and Meditations Over Shore . Being well received by the critics, "The Music is dreamy and utterly gorgeous" (American Record Guide.), these CDs are frequently played worldwide. Navok's music were also performed in renowned festivals such as Tanglewood (United States), Aspen (United States), Begegnungen (Austria), Manuel Enriquez (Mexico), Internationales Zelt-Musik-Festival (Germany), Greensboro (United States), and halls such as Carnegie Recital Hall, Jordan Hall and the Berlin Dom.
Lior Navok holds a Doctor degree in Composition from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with composition with John Harbison and conducting with Tamara Brooks. He earned his double Bachelor in Classical Composition and Orchestral Conducting from the Rubin Academy of Music (Jerusalem, Israel) where he studied composition with Yinam Leef.
