A native of Spokane, Washington, mezzo soprano Jessica Bowers earned her Bachelor's Degree in vocal performance, with honors, from Whitworth College. While at Whitworth, she sang in master classes with Thomas Hampson, John Shirley-Quirk, Dean Williamson, and Richard Miller. She proceeded to complete two Master's Degrees at New England Conservatory in Boston. While at NEC, Jessica performed the role of The Queen in John Harbison's A Full Moon in March during NEC's annual Festival Week. Recent performances have included Rosina in Barber of Seville , Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, Ruth in Pirates of Penzance , and Nicklausse in The Tales of Hoffmann , all with Spokane Opera; Mrs. Peachum in Three-Penny Opera , and Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night's Dream , with the NEC Opera Theater; Buttercup in HMS Pinafore , and Mrs. Smith in The Arcadians , with Ohio Light Opera; Mère Jeanne in Dialogues of the Carmelites , and the Old Lady in the youth performance of Candide at Central City. For two years she was a Young Artist with Utah Opera, covering the role of Carmen, and performing Mrs. Anderssen in A Little Night Music , and Tisbe in the touring production of Cinderella . This past summer she worked with Marc Oswald and Richard Danielpour in Florence, Italy as part of a workshop on new compositions, through the Atlantic Center for the Arts. She has most recently been heard in the Boston area performing Mrs. Herring in Albert Herring with Red House Opera Group.
